Ashley Nelson Music
Ashley's formal choral experience began in Boston University's Chamber Choir and Symphonic Choir under the direction of Dr. Ann Howard Jones, being music director and primary arranger for Terpsichore, BU's premier all-female a cappella group, and then joining and arranging for Undertone, a Boston-based semi-professional a cappella group.
After completing her undergraduate degree in music education with a vocal emphasis, she began her public school teaching experience at Hopkinton Middle School in MA. For four years, she enjoyed her success in directing the choirs, expanding the program, and achieving superior ratings at festivals. At that time she was also completing her graduate degree in music education.
Ashley then went on to work for eight years at Norwood High School, where she directed voice part-specific training choirs, a mixed Concert Chorale, a Madrigal Choir, and various a cappella groups. She also established voice part-specific auditioned after-school choirs, the Muses and Concordia. During her tenure, the choirs consistently achieved superior ratings at festivals and a record number of students were accepted into the SEMMEA District, MMEA All-State, and NAfME All-Eastern choirs. Ashley then went on to expand the choral program at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham for 5 years. She now conducts the choirs and teaches other music electives at Medway High School.
Ashley spent over a decade on the MICCA Executive Board as Choral Festival Chairperson, and also served as manager for the MMEA All-State Chorus. Ashley has published articles in music educator journals, frequently presides and presents clinics at MMEA Conferences, and is a hired choral clinician & adjudicator. She was the Membership Chair for the Massachusetts chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and also received the MICCA Paul Smith Hall of Fame award in 2025.
She is the music director of the Charles River Chorale, a community choir based in Millis, MA.
Ashley will be conducting the RIMEA All State Junior Treble Choir in 2026 and was delighted to serve as the conductor of the MA Central District Senior Choir in January of 2017.
Ashley is available for vocal and choral adjudication and clinics. To hire Ashley or receive testimonials, please do not hesitate to contact her.
